WHAT IS APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA)

ABA is a set of principles that can be applied to the teaching of skills that increase independence and participation in learning opportunities. ABA may also be helpful in decreasing behaviors that are unsafe, disruptive or interfering with a person’s quality of life. ABA uses interventions such as reinforcement, prompting, shaping, antecedent management strategies, and a variety of different structured teaching approaches.

Your child’s team of providers would include a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). This is the person that assesses your child’s skills and behavior, designs individualized programming for your child and oversees the implementation of this programming by providing high levels of supervision to our direct service providers. Your child will also have a team of direct service providers which we call Behavior Technicians or Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT). These are the people that are working 1:1 with your child during their time in our clinics. For more information on our team, click here!

Who can contact us for an initial referal?

-Anyone! A parent, a school provider, an early intervention provider, a pediatrician, or the clinician who may have diagnosed your child with ASD.

-During an initial referral, we will gather basic information about you and your child’s needs, as well as insurance information.

-We will confirm that your insurance company funds ABA services.

Once we have initial contact about your child and your funding source, we will direct you through the following steps:

1.) Talk to your pediatrician about a referral for ABA (if you don’t already have one).

2.)Fill out a parent intake form sent to you electronically or by mail.

3.) Send us a copy of the referral and your child’s diagnostic report (the report from the clinician that may have diagnosed your child with ASD).

4.) Send us a copy of your insurance cards.

Once we have received all of these documents, your child will officially be on our waitlist (if we have one at the time) and we will initiate contact with you to schedule an Intake Appointment. These appointments typically happen 4-6 weeks before we anticipate an opening for your child.

At the intake appointment, one of clinicians (BCBA or BCaBA) will talk with you and also observe, play and possibly test some skills with your child. These appointments last about one hour but can be longer, if necessary. Goals, interventions and number of hours a week of services will be determined based on the intake appointment (taking family preference and ability into consideration!) and written into an individualized Treatment Plan for your child.

The Treatment Plan will be submitted to your insurance company for funding approval. Once services are authorized by your insurance company, a schedule will be finalized and your child can begin to be seen for services!
